Sofia van Leeuwen is an American artist with Dutch roots (b. 1981). Her practice of combined media includes research with a focus on ecology, cordage and digital decay. Since 2019, van Leeuwen has grown bast fibers and dye plants as a steward at Prospect Heights Community Farm. She approaches group gardening and weaving as healing modalities and is a founding member of the Brooklyn Hand Spinners Guild.
